This year, 2024, it runs on the 9th and 10th of March, and the 24th and 25th of August (ideal if you’re here in the summer). It takes place in the Convention Centre, which you can find here:

How much does it cost?

Tickets are around €30, but act fast as the event typically sells out. With a line-up of famous guests, this year including voice actors from GTA V, Baldur’s Gate III, and Bender from Futurama, as well as actors from Supernatural and Netflix’s One Piece, the show hosts talks and discussions, and offers the chance to meet some pretty cool people.

Away from the celebrity side of things, DCC (as those in the community refer to it) is popular for three other things; cosplay, photo opportunities, and the artist alley.
This is where our grammar points come in.

Cosplay

What is cosplay? Simply put, cosplay is dressing up as a character. It is extremely popular in Ireland, with many people making their own costumes. If you go to DCC, remember that you need to ask to take pictures. Some simple questions and phrases will help you while you’re there.
● Can I take your picture?
● Can I get a picture with you?
● I love your costume!
● Who are you dressed as?
● Did you make it yourself?
● How did you make it?

Artist Alley

The Artist Alley is where you’ll find some of Ireland’s finest writers and illustrators, as well as crafters (who make, rather than write or draw). You shouldn’t just take a picture of someone’s table at DCC. If you have the money, this is a great place to buy something, even if it’s small.
● I love your art!
● How much is this?
● Did you do all of this yourself?

These phrases will help start a conversation with the artists and cosplayers. Remember, Comic Con is a safe space, and nobody will judge you for your level of English.

This is a great opportunity to practise your English (speaking and listening), and maybe make new friends, in a welcoming environment.
