Academic Year Programme
These long-term programmes for non-EU students are designed to allow students to progress through at least one level over an academic year period and to gain a professional, internationally recognised English qualification. We offer a 15 or 20 hour programme with the option to study in the morning, or in the afternoon at a discount.
The 15-hour programmes provide a good foundation in the main linguistic skills, with a strong focus on communication. The 20 hour programme builds on the 15-hour foundation by offering 5 extra elective lessons, in a range of disciplines including conversation fluency, business English and examination preparation. The classes are integrated with our General English programmes, allowing for a greater nationality mix of EEA and non-EEA students.
Duration: 1 academic year (minimum 25 weeks study) with an 8 month visa
Start date: Any Monday of the year, excluding Christmas vacation
Hours: 15 or 20 per week
Levels: A1 – C2.
Entry requirements: Students should be at least 18 years old on the course start date and should have a basic A1 level of English. Students tested at A0 level cannot enter the programme and should take one-to-one tuition until A1 level is reached.
Obligatory exit exam: All Academic Year students are required to sit a recognised exam prior to completing their course.
Awards: All programmes include preparation for the Trinity ISE exam. Students enrolled on the 20 hour programmme can choose to prepare for Cambridge Exams (FCE, CAE) or IELTS 6 or 7, but an exam fee supplement applies.
Right to work: Students from outside the EU on Academic Year programmes have the right to work 20 hours per week during the course, and 40 hours per week only during holidays from May to August & December 15th to January 15th inclusive.
