Eliciting English Language with D.I.Y Publishing for Primary School Students — Zine-making / Zine History and Culture

Module Description

This module was aimed to increase participants’ appreciation of teaching techniques that can be used to bring literature to life in the English language classroom.

Using a variety of D.I.Y (“do it yourself”) publications and platforms, we explored various ways to promote and exploit these in order to help students develop their language skills by motivating their creativity through studying the history and culture of self-publishing, and through promoting awareness of contemporary forms of literature that speak to a young audience.

From handmade to digital “Zines,” from “Comics” to “Abecedarians” and “Pop-Ups,” together we explored ways to make literature active, lively and interesting for primary school students in the English language classroom.
