Open House Dublin is offering a rare opportunity to take a sneak peek inside some of Dublin’s most historical, modern and interesting architectural landmarks for free! Over 100 events are offered. Here’s our pick of the top five “must sees”.

THE MANSION HOUSE

The official residence of the Lord Mayor of Dublin for the past 301 years! View the historic Oak Room, Dining Room and other public rooms. The Mansion House has been the venue for a number of notable events in the history of Dublin and the journey to Irish Independence. Dignitaries who have visited include Queen Victoria and Nelson Mandela, while important civic events such as the conferring of the Honorary Freedom of the City of Dublin have also taken place here.

Pembroke Town Hall was designed by Edward Henry Carson in Dublin, Ireland
Built in 1880 Pembroke Town Hall was designed by Edward Henry Carson. The City of Dublin Education and Training Board is hosting an architectural tour of the building and surrounding area as part of a weekend of events commemorating 1916 including drama, music and exhibitions.

No. 25 Eustace Street is a handsome Georgian Townhouse and one of only a small number of early 18th century houses to survive intact from this time. The characteristic interior features tall narrow proportions, panelled interiors and the original bolection panelled staircases. The general feeling throughout the house is of an early Georgian simplicity and modesty which some people today perceive as frugal, even though it is quite true to the period.

The Abbey Theatre is Ireland’s national theatre. The Abbey produces an annual programme of diverse, engaging, innovative Irish and international theatre and invests in and promotes new Irish writers and artists. The Abbey Foyer, Auditorium, Yeats Lounge and Rehearsal Room will feature in this tour.

Who hasn’t heard about Airbnb? Their new warehouse on Hanover Quay is a building of architectural and historical delight which has been carefully restored and renovated. The meeting rooms are actual replicas of listings on the Airbnb website!
