Hi everyone! My name is Bruno, and I am an ESL student at ISI Dublin. Today, I want to share how networking at school has helped me in many different ways. First, I’ll talk about making friends and avoiding loneliness, and then I’ll discuss how networking can help you find a house and a job.
Why Choosing a Good School Matters
Before anything else, it’s important to highlight the role of a good school in your ESL experience. That’s why I highly recommend ISI Dublin! The school offers wonderful infrastructure, highly qualified teachers, and great support when it comes to essential matters, such as handling documents, booking holidays, and even opening a bank account.
Cultural Mix and Friendships
One of the best things about studying at ISI Dublin is the cultural diversity. You’ll meet people from all over the world, and this will allow you to see things from different perspectives. Interacting with people who think differently can help you understand new ideas, challenge your own own beliefs, and even change your mindset!
Personally, I’ve made friends who’ve helped me navigate life in Dublin. Some have taught me how to find a job, others have shared new cooking techniques, and many have given me valuable advice on living abroad—especially when it has come to finding housing and employment.
Finding a House
If you’re coming to Ireland or are already here, you might be aware of the current housing crisis. Finding a good place to live can be very difficult, and rental prices are quite high. However, networking can make a huge difference. Sometimes, simply talking to friends can help you find an affordable place faster than searching online.
For example, I know people who have managed to rent a single room for about €600 (which is actually a good price for Dublin). Many of them had connections or knew the right places to look. By networking, you increase your chances of finding better rental opportunities through word of mouth and personal recommendations.
Finding a Job
If you’re a long-term student, getting a job is essential to cover your expenses, as living in Ireland is expensive. While many people say it’s easy to find work here, that’s not always the case—you may need help from others who are already employed.
Yes, platforms like LinkedIn and Indeed are important, but in Ireland personal connections matter even more. Your friends from school are going through the same experience as you, and they can offer guidance or even recommend you for a job.
I won’t lie—your first job might not be the best, but stay strong and keep going. With persistence, you’ll find better opportunities!
Final Tip!
Apart from networking with fellow students at ISI Dublin, you can also join the Jobs Club! It is free for all students and takes place every week, coordinated by one of the teachers. The club covers essential topics such as:
✔️ How to find a job
✔️ Writing a CV and cover letter
✔️ Interview skills
By participating, you’ll gain practical knowledge and increase your chances of getting a job in Dublin!
Final Thoughts
Networking is one of the most powerful tools you have while studying abroad. Whether it’s for making friends, finding a house, or securing a job, building connections will make your life in Dublin much easier.
If you’re studying at ISI Dublin or planning to come here, start networking as soon as possible—you won’t regret it!
